What? [Blu-ray]

**** "This?" is a whimsical exploration of life's absurdities, reminiscent of a modern "Alice in Wonderland." The film, described as a picaresque with dreamlike qualities, offers viewers a tapestry of beautifully filmed vignettes featuring offbeat characters and surreal situations. While the absence of a conventional plot may frustrate some viewers, others find it liberating; the lack of narrative structure encourages a focus on the film's unique visual and auditory experience. Critics note that the premise is oddly captivating, drawing comparisons to a form of "pure" cinema, where the aesthetic overshadows traditional storytelling. The film's protagonist, played by Sydne Rome, escapes into a quirky mansion populated by eccentric residents, adding to the film’s bizarre charm. The Mediterranean backdrop enhances the film's enchanting allure, presenting a picturesque setting that complements the surreal narrative. However, not all viewers were satisfied. Some felt the narrative was disjointed and lacked coherence, leading them to wonder if crucial scenes had been omitted. The film's unusual storytelling style requires a viewer's willingness to embrace the nonsensical, making it a potentially polarizing experience. It is crucial for audiences to approach "This?" without the preconceived notions of expectations for linear storytelling or depth. Ultimately, "This?" delivers a peculiar yet entertaining journey that may leave some viewers intrigued and others perplexed. Those who appreciate art house cinema, visual storytelling, and eccentricity may find this film's beauty in its absurdity. **Pros and Cons:** **
