ABUS Pro Tectic 4960 Frame Lock, Black (11260)

**** The ABUS Pro Tectic 4960 Frame Lock has garnered a mixed but generally positive reception among cyclists who prioritize convenience and some level of security for their bicycles. As a frame lock, its main strength lies in its ability to secure the rear wheel, effectively preventing quick thefts by individuals who might otherwise seize an opportunity to ride away on an unattended bike. Users recommend this lock for short stops when the bike is within sight, such as at a cafe or convenience store, highlighting its ease of use and permanent attachment to the bike frame as significant advantages. Many reviewers appreciate the lock's sturdiness, noting that while its external appearance may be somewhat sleek or unassuming, the internal mechanisms are robust and well-engineered. For added security, users are encouraged to purchase an optional chain or cable to prevent theft by lifting the entire bike, underlining that this frame lock works best as part of a more comprehensive security system. Installation can be a bit challenging for American bike models that might not have the necessary mounting points; additional mounts are available but need to be ordered separately. Some users found creative solutions, such as using wire ties, though this approach does require some ingenuity. While some reviewers felt the lock was a bit overpriced at its full retail price of $50, many found it to be a worthwhile investment when purchased on sale. However, it’s important to note that, like any frame lock, it should not be the sole line of defense for expensive bikes, appealing to those looking for a balance between convenience and security. **
